Eddie Money was not only a rock and roll icon because of a string of hit songs, he was also known for his comedic manner. I had a face-to-face encounter with Eddie and his comical nature when he was one of the headliners at a rock concert put on by the radio station I was working for. I've written about it in my book, Born to be Mild. Here's an excerpt:

"I was in a hotel elevator crowded with rock stars. We were headed to a top floor suite where the group Heart was having an after-party. A man who had apparently gotten an early start to the festivities got on last. It was Eddie Money. Eddie was one of the stars of the show that not only included the Wilson sisters but also rock legend, Peter Frampton. Money’s songs Baby Hold On and Two Tickets to Paradise had propelled him to near mythical status. He had a reputation as a party animal and was in full celebration mode on this night.

Eddie pressed the elevator button for the 24th floor, one floor below our destination. He got out, then suddenly thrust his left arm between the elevator doors. When they opened, he staggered back in.

We were curious. One of the musicians asked, “What’s the matter, Eddie, wrong floor?”

Eddie's slurred response was, "No. Wrong hotel."

Behind-the-scenes stories of rock and roll are among a variety of experiences I've written about. Some of them are funny, others are a little disturbing. Born to be Mild is scheduled to be published in the last week of July. You can order it on Amazon or at authorjameshees.com
